From Buffalo to Billings, then Billings to Minneapolis, Minneapolis to Amsterdam, and Amsterdam to Paris — the first two days went by in a frenzy of flights. All went well for our crew. From laughs about “hammer time” to a close-call with a delayed flight, we had some memorable experiences today!
Upon arrival in Paris, we were met at the airport by our tour guide, Mónica, who will be with us for our whole trip. She is a lovely Spanish-Basque woman, originally from Bilbao. She drove us by bus to our hotel, then gave us a lesson about using the subway system in Paris.
After navigating four line changes and arriving downtown in Paris’ bustling Latin Quarter, we spent the afternoon with free time to stretch our legs, wander around back-streets, walk along the Seine River, and shop at artisan shops, department stores, and tourist shops. Many students tried fresh pastries & crepes while others opted for a coffee or saved their money for souvenirs.
By dinner time at Flam - a trendy all-you-dare-to-eat Flam Restaurant (perfectly Parisian pizza of many flavors), we were a bit giddy with sleepiness. We ate until we could eat no more, then met with our whole group from Wyoming, New York, and Michigan to lay out our plans for tomorrow.
We arrived back to our hotel close to 9pm, and we were more than happy to settle into our rooms and relax for a good night’s sleep.
Tomorrow it’s on to a full-blown city tour by bus, then our visit to Versailles!! Our tour director has also arranged an additional optional excursion for our travelers - a night time boat ride along the Seine River to see Paris lit up at night. Stay tuned for more tomorrow!
